Research Training
The CCRE investigators comprise a group with a diverse yet strong background in clinical research mentorship and an awareness of the difficulties in promoting career development in clinical research. All training programmes have an evidence-based practice theme providing opportunities for supervised completion of systematic reviews and translation of evidence into practice. The Clinical Research Training Program consists of one-year programmes, PhD scholarships and post-doctoral career development fellowships.
One-year clinical research stipends
We will offer one-year clinical research stipends to Advanced Trainees in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine or those seeking research training post FRACP.. The Centre’s Chief Investigators and Fellows will mentor trainees. Those who wish to continue in full-time research will be expected to apply for external scholarships.
Career Paths
Career paths will be developed for medical and non-medical graduates wishing to pursue post-doctoral clinical studies. For example, over the past 10 years, the Chief Investigators’ departments have had 8 physiotherapists complete PhDs who in turn fostered a new generation of doctoral and masters students from a physiotherapy background.
Part-time Clinical Practitioners
Part-time positions will be offered to suit those applicants who wish to pursue a career in clinical practice as well as research. In collaboration with the Chief Investigators, Fellows will be encouraged to apply for project grants or individual NHMRC fellowships. This rolling program will ensure progression of researchers to more senior roles as well as contributing to the sustainability of the Centre.
Clinical research workshops
Chief Investigators and other CCRE clinical researchers will extend existing annual clinical research workshops in respiratory and sleep disorders.
Formal Training
Training will be developed by the Chief Investigators as part of new Masters and Graduate Certificate courses in evidence-based respiratory and sleep medicine practice.
